The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) was constituted under Section 45ZB of the RBI Act, 1934 (as amended in 2016). It has 6 members: 3 from the RBI (Governor as Chairperson, Deputy Governor in charge of monetary policy, and one officer of the RBI) and 3 external members appointed by the Central Government.
